Extending any level of the past,

Extending any level of the past, defense, space and other areas have expanded to Bangladesh's cooperation with India. The Teesta water sharing agreement remained in force during this time of deepening the cooperation of two neighboring neighbors.

Eprothom Alo Two years ago, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in Delhi, along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi promised to sign the Teesta agreement during the tenure of the two governments. During his tenure, he could not fulfill the promise.

On the condition of non-disclosure of the names, the responsible officials of the Foreign Ministry said in the first light last week that they were disappointed that the Teesta was not signed at the Delhi summit in April, 2017. Especially in the days when India did not give any time limit for Teesta Sai, it was confirmed that the agreement is not too soon.

Bangladeshi diplomats working in Dhaka and Delhi, if they want to know whether Bangladesh has discussed the matter, told the reporter, "Whenever there is a chance during the last two years, Bangladesh has discussed it." But India has said it will follow the contractual policy of all parties after the end of the internal process.

Asked about the implementation of the decision of the Hasina-Modi summit, the Foreign Secretary said. Shahidul Haque said in the first light on Friday that with the decision of the meeting of the two prime ministers, discussions with India's Foreign Secretary Bijoy Gokhale in New Delhi on April 16 will be discussed.

When asked about the progress of the Teesta agreement, Shahidul Haque said that the highest level of assurance has been given from India, that the agreement will be signed after finishing their internal process. Bangladesh wants to rely on India's commitment to this.

Water resources
In June 2015, Narendra Modi came to Dhaka and asked for a time for signing the Teesta agreement. After nearly two years after the meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in Delhi in April of 2017, Narendra Modi pledged to sign an agreement on this period. But there is no progress in the discussion over the last two years. After the Delhi Summit in April of 2017, they met at Santiniketan in Kolkata in May of 2018. There was no effective discussion on Teesta. Foreign ministers of two countries met at least twice in Dhaka and Delhi this time but could not hear the message of hope. Therefore, there is no discussion on the same river other than the development of Teesta.

When asked about this, Bangladeshi diplomats say that India has always been told about the decision of the central government in the process of their central government. It is necessary to say that internal politics is involved. After that the country has become a face-to-face election. In this situation, there will be no good news about Teesta soon, it is fairly sure.

Former Bangladesh Ambassador M Humayun Kabir said in the first light on Monday that the expansion and depth of the two neighbors have been the same for several years. Visas for the citizens of Bangladesh are easy due to the increase of the people. Because of the visibility of the visa, it is easy for people to get the degree of relationship. Likewise, the restructuring of relationships could be even more intense when it came to other issues.

According to M Humayun Kabir, the water of the common rivers is important for the two countries. Apart from this, Bangladesh could not concentrate on this matter. Humayun Kabir said, if there is no initiative on water now, the pressure will increase in the future. If the importance of Bangladesh is not addressed even after the relationship is intensified, questions will arise among the people. Considering the future of the relationship, we need to be mindful of this.
